Jawaharpur Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (JVUNL) is spearheading the development of a 2x660 MW Thermal Power Unit in Malawan, Etah, Uttar Pradesh, with a hefty investment of ₹10,566 Crore. With construction currently underway, the project is slated for completion in 2023 for Unit 1 and 2024 for Unit 2, promising to significantly bolster the state's power generation capacity.
Distinguished by its adoption of supercritical technology, the thermal power unit emphasizes enhanced efficiency and reduced emissions, further augmented by the integration of flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems for stringent emission control. Additionally, the project entails a dedicated railway line for efficient coal transportation, sourced from the Saharpur Jamarpani Coal Block.
While the project holds the promise of addressing Uttar Pradesh's growing energy demands and stimulating economic growth through job creation and local development, it also grapples with a set of challenges. Environmental concerns surrounding coal-fired power generation, coupled with complexities related to land acquisition and potential community displacement, underscore the need for diligent mitigation strategies and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
