L&T's Reoli-Dugli Hydro Project Illuminates Himachal

The proposed Run-of-the-River hydroelectric power plant aims to harness the energy potential of the Chenab River, situated downstream of Udaipur town, between the Seli and Purthi HEP Projects. With an estimated cost of Rs. 1800 crores, this venture plans to yield a capacity of 420 MW, although some initial reports suggest a range between 410 MW to 458 MW, necessitating clarification.

The technical blueprint of this project encompasses a 75-meter-high concrete dam at the convergence of Darhi Nala and Reoli Nala with the Chenab River. Water diversion will be facilitated through two steel-lined pressure shafts, leading to an underground powerhouse located on the right bank near Reoli village. The powerhouse will be equipped with four Francis turbines, each potentially capable of producing 105 MW, albeit with slight variations as per certain sources. The headrace tunnel spans 11.423 km, while the tailrace tunnel specifications remain unspecified.

Anticipated benefits include clean energy generation, forecasted to fulfill the electricity requirements of over 2 million households. Additionally, the project is expected to drive economic development by creating employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases, potentially generating revenue for the state. Infrastructure improvements, including road enhancements and enhanced access to remote areas, are also on the horizon.

As on December 2023, The project is currently in the stage of being approved currently awaiting approval from the government.
