Meralco invites bids for 1800-MW power supply

Next year, the Manila Electric Company will solicit competitive bids for the provision of 1,800 megawatts (MW) of power.

Previously, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) granted approval for the cessation of power supply agreements between Meralco and the power generation units of San Miguel.

The reason for the termination was the expiration of the contracts.

In 2021, Excellent Energy and Masinloc Power Partners were granted twenty-year contracts to provide 1,200MW and 600MW of power, commencing in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Meralco implemented the competitive selection process (CSP) in response to the increasing needs and expectations of its clientele.

A Certificate of Conformity for the Terms of Reference (TOR) pertaining to a 15-year contractual agreement with Meralco to fulfill its 1800-MW baseload demand commenced in December 2024, as issued by the Department of Energy.

The deadline for proposal submissions is December 26, 2023, and the pre-bid conference is slated for November 20, 2023.
