NTPC is preparing to submit its first feasibility study for a nuclear power project to the Department of Atomic Energy and seek approval to move forward with the proposal, according to sources.
The approval would allow the state-run power major to initiate work on its first standalone nuclear power project in India. As part of its long-term clean energy strategy, NTPC aims to develop at least 2 GW of nuclear power generation capacity by 2032.
Sources added that the company is also undertaking feasibility studies for nuclear power projects in two other states. In the latest development, NTPC has received approval from the Government of Bihar to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed nuclear power project in Banka district.
