Powering Up Kerala: KSEB Fast-Tracks Hydro Projects for 2027

Driven by a high-level review chaired by Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has prioritized the expedited completion of state hydroelectric projects.

By April and May 2027, the state aims to commission 39.5 MW of new capacity via small hydro schemes like Chinnar (24 MW), Poovaramthode, and Olikkal. Alongside these short-term targets, preliminary engineering for long-term power expansions—such as the Idukki hydel station upgrade—is being actively accelerated to ensure sustainable grid stability and increased renewable energy self-sufficiency.
