SJVN Ignites Growth with 1320 MW Power Plant in Bihar

SJVN Limited's Buxar Thermal Power Plant Project, located in Chausa Village, Buxar District, Bihar, is a significant infrastructure endeavor set to enhance Bihar's power generation capacity with two units of 660 MW each, totaling 1320 MW. Utilizing supercritical technology and incorporating advanced emissions control systems like Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) and Electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), the project aims to boost efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. Expected to be completed by 2023-24, the project also includes innovative wastewater management strategies such as zero liquid discharge and rainwater harvesting, alongside plans for effective utilization of ash generated during combustion.

While the project promises increased power supply, reduced dependence on imported coal, and economic growth through employment generation and infrastructure development, it also raises environmental and social concerns. The combustion of coal may contribute to air and water pollution, though mitigating measures like FGD and ESP systems have been implemented. Socially, the project may lead to displacement of local communities, but SJVN Limited is committed to mitigating these impacts through compensation and rehabilitation efforts.

In summary, while the Buxar Thermal Power Plant Project offers significant benefits in terms of energy generation and economic development, careful consideration of its environmental and social impacts is crucial. Balancing these factors ensures sustainable and responsible infrastructure development, contributing positively to Bihar's growth trajectory.
