Sunsure Secures 125 MW Battery Storage Deal

Sunsure Energy has signed a Battery Energy Discharge Purchase Agreement (BEDPA) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), securing 125 MW/500 MWh of storage capacity to supply peak-hour power to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL).

This 15-year agreement is Sunsure’s first long-term contract involving a battery energy storage system (BESS) and will operate under a build-own-operate model. The standalone BESS will be located at the Garautha substation in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and will provide four hours of clean, on-demand energy daily between 6 PM and 10 AM, helping UPPCL meet peak demand at competitive, long-term tariffs.

Notably, the contract introduces a shift in India’s energy storage economics by basing tariffs on discharged energy (Rs/kWh) rather than fixed monthly charges—an innovative approach in the sector.

Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, stated:
"We’ve evolved from pure solar offerings to hybrid systems with BESS, enabling commercial and industrial customers to access renewable power during peak hours and further displace fossil fuels from their energy mix."

This project positions Sunsure and NVVN as key players in India’s emerging clean energy storage ecosystem.
