Tata Power Charges Ahead: Scaling India’s Intrastate Grid

Tata Power is actively exploring opportunities in the intrastate transmission system (InSTS) segment through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, reinforcing its focus on expanding India’s power transmission infrastructure.

The company’s CEO and Managing Director, Praveer Sinha, recently highlighted the successful acquisition of the Ryapte transmission project in Karnataka. The project marks Tata Power’s third greenfield intrastate-TBCB venture, following the Jalpura-Khurja project in Uttar Pradesh and the Jejuri-Hinjewadi project in Maharashtra. Construction activity for the Maharashtra project is already underway, with key contracts awarded.

During FY26, the company also completed two major interstate transmission projects under the TBCB framework — South East UP Power Transmission Company (SEUPPTCL) and NRSSS-XXXVI — through Resurgent Power Ventures. Together, these projects added 1,823 circuit kilometres (ckm) to the company’s operational transmission network. The completion of SEUPPTCL is considered a significant milestone for Uttar Pradesh, introducing an extensive network of 765kV and 400kV transmission lines along with substantial substation capacity.

Through continued participation in the TBCB model, Tata Power is strengthening its role in improving grid reliability, enhancing regional power stability, and supporting the expansion of India’s national and state-level electricity infrastructure.
