Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced plans to establish India’s largest 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹6,675 crore.
The greenfield project is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing of critical raw materials used in solar cells, modules, and semiconductor chips, supporting India’s broader objective of reducing dependence on imports. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 120 acres of land at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone for the facility, with additional land earmarked for future expansion. The project is expected to generate direct employment for around 1,000 people and will be powered by a dedicated 200 MW captive green energy plant—one of the key considerations in the site selection.
The proposal has received clearance from the State Investment Promotion Board and is currently awaiting Cabinet approval. Emphasising the state’s attractiveness for clean energy investments, IT Minister Nara Lokesh said the project reflects strong investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s policy stability, infrastructure preparedness, and commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
