Wind Power Updraft! SECI Seeks Bids for 500 MW Wind Projects Across India

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is inviting bids from developers to set up 500 MW wind power projects. These projects can be located anywhere in India, but they must be connected to the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS). The ISTS is a network of high-voltage transmission lines that transmits electricity across India. Connecting wind power projects to the ISTS will allow the electricity generated by these projects to be supplied to consumers across the country.

The deadline for submitting bids is July 8, 2024. In order to be eligible to submit a bid, developers must meet certain financial criteria. They must have a net worth of at least ₹12.9 million per MW of quoted capacity. Additionally, they must have a minimum annual turnover of ₹6.9 million per MW of quoted capacity. These financial requirements are in place to ensure that only developers with the financial resources necessary to complete these projects are eligible to bid.

The SECI has also specified that only commercially established and operational technologies can be deployed in these wind power projects. This means that developers cannot propose to use new or untested technologies. The SECI likely has this requirement in place to ensure that the wind power projects are reliable and can generate electricity consistently.

This bid invitation by the SECI is a positive development for the wind power industry in India. It will help to increase the country's wind power capacity and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. The wind power projects that are developed as a result of this bid invitation will also help to create jobs and boost the Indian economy.
