The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has launched India’s first “Solar on Track” initiative at its Namo Bharat Depot in Duhai.
Under the pilot project, 28 solar panels (550W peak each) have been installed along a 70-meter section of the Pit Wheel Track, generating 15.4 kWp of power. The system is expected to produce 17,500 kWh annually, cutting carbon emissions by 16 tonnes per year. NCRTC aims to meet 70% of its energy requirements through renewable sources and has already commissioned 5.5 MW of solar capacity.
This initiative supports NCRTC’s commitment to net-zero carbon emissions and complements the National Solar Mission. The network also incorporates sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, and regenerative braking systems, setting new standards for eco-friendly urban transit.
