A New Era for Gurugram: Metro Phase-I Breaks Ground

Construction of Gurugram Metro Phase-I is set to begin by mid-September, as groundwork preparation is underway with the deployment of a piling rig near the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) office in Sector-44, adjacent to the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line terminus.

According to officials, the piling rig—crucial for digging deep foundation pillars—will begin operations following the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony, to be conducted by the Haryana government.

“We expect physical work to commence within the next 15 to 20 days,” an official stated.

The rig, transported from Surat over a seven-day journey, is capable of digging up to 180 meters and completing the concreting of a pillar foundation within 12 hours. Final design specifications are being reviewed by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) before piling work starts.

The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony is scheduled for later this month, with participation from Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. A large public gathering is being planned at Sector 29 or Tau Devi Lal Stadium to mark the occasion.

Last month, GMRL awarded the ₹1,277 crore (excluding GST) Phase-I construction contract to a joint venture between Dilip Buildcon and Ranjit Buildcon.
