Indian Railways has officially dropped two major infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir: the proposed 40-km rail link from Baramulla to Uri and the 74-km track-doubling project between Qazigund, Srinagar, and Budgam.
According to a Railway Board directive to Northern Railway, the Cabinet Secretariat returned both proposals, citing growing ecological sensitivities, administrative reviews, and seismic concerns. This follows previous decisions by the Rail Ministry to halt the Anantnag–Pahalgam and Anantnag–Shopian extensions in the wake of local opposition and protests.
