Bengaluru's Yellow Line: On Track!

The 19.15-km Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronics City, is a major step toward linking Bengaluru’s southern tech corridor with the larger metro network. Although civil works have been completed for months, delays in the arrival of driverless train sets have pushed back commissioning.

With the Railway Board now approving the rolling stock, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) expects to receive a third train set soon. Trial runs began in March 2024, and partial operations are anticipated by June, following the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection scheduled for late May. BMRCL plans to implement any required changes within two weeks post-inspection.

Originally awarded to China’s CRRC in 2019 under a ₹1,578 crore contract, the project faced delays due to non-delivery, prompting BMRCL to engage Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems to continue production locally.

Once operational, the Yellow Line will significantly improve connectivity and help reduce traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest regions.
