Boost for Bharat: 150 New MEMU & Namo Bharat Trains on the Tracks

In a major boost to short- and medium-distance rail travel, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Indian Railways will roll out 100 next-generation Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains and 50 additional Namo Bharat trains as part of its ongoing rail infrastructure modernization drive.

The new MEMU trains—known for their efficiency and reliability on non-urban and semi-urban routes—will be manufactured at a newly established facility in Kazipet, Telangana. Designed to handle higher passenger volumes, particularly during peak travel periods and festivals, the enhanced MEMU fleet will improve regional connectivity and commuter convenience.

Meanwhile, the decision to introduce 50 more Namo Bharat trains follows strong public response to their deployment on the Ahmedabad–Bhuj and Jayanagar–Patna corridors. These fully air-conditioned trains are optimized for short intercity routes, offering improved comfort, speed, and travel experience.

The initiative reflects Indian Railways' commitment to strengthening the country’s transport network through advanced, passenger-focused solutions that enhance capacity, efficiency, and sustainability.
