East Coast Railway (ECoR) has approved a Rs 300 crore multi-phase redevelopment of Brahmapur Railway Station in southern Odisha, marking its most significant upgrade since inception. The station currently handles over 162 trains and around 25,000 passengers daily, making it one of the busiest rail hubs in the region.
The redevelopment plan focuses on major capacity expansion through the 3rd and 4th line project, adding three additional railway lines and four new platforms. This will significantly improve the station’s ability to manage originating, terminating, and passing trains, reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency.
The project also includes construction of a new station building on the second entry side, yard modifications to accommodate additional lines, and relocation of service buildings and railway quarters. A key feature of the upgrade is a modern concourse integrated with passenger amenities such as ticketing, waiting areas, and safety facilities.
Crowning the design is a 1,098 sq m roof plaza intended for passenger leisure, retail, and community use, transforming the station into a modern multimodal transport and public space hub. The redevelopment aims to enhance capacity, comfort, and overall travel experience while supporting future rail growth in the region.
