CCEA Approves Six Railway Projects Worth Rs 12,343 Crore

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given the green light to six railway projects on February 8, 2024, with a combined estimated cost of Rs 12,343 crore, to be fully financed by the Union government.

These projects, designed to enhance railway operations and alleviate congestion, represent a significant infrastructure advancement for Indian Railways. Spanning 18 districts across six states, they will expand the Indian Railways network by 1,020 km. The initiatives include track doubling endeavors such as Ajmer-Chanderiya (178 km) and Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur (131 km) in Rajasthan, Luni-Samdari-Bhildi (271 km) in Gujarat and Rajasthan, and Agthori-Kamakhya (7 km) in Assam, incorporating a new rail-road bridge.

Furthermore, the project encompasses Lumping-Furkating (140 km) in Assam and Nagaland, as well as Motumari-Vishnupuram (88 km) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which features a 10-km rail over rail in Motumari. Scheduled for completion by 2029-30, these initiatives aim to augment line capacity, facilitating smoother train operations and reduced wagon turnaround times.

Aligned with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, these sections will ensure seamless movement of people, goods, and services through integrated planning. Additionally, by leveraging the eco-friendly and energy-efficient attributes of railways, the projects will contribute to achieving climate objectives, curtailing logistics costs, reducing oil imports, and lowering CO2 emissions.
