The Coimbatore Metro Rail project is progressing steadily, with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) set to complete the final Detailed Land Plan Schedule (LPS), including asset valuation for both proposed corridors, within the next two months.
The 40-km project comprises two corridors: Corridor-1 will connect Ukkadam Bus Stand to Coimbatore Airport near Neelambur, while Corridor-2 will run from Coimbatore Junction to Valiyampalayam Privu. The total estimated cost of the project is ₹10,740 crore.
Coimbatore MP Ganapathy P. Rajkumar and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran confirmed that surveys and mapping for the entire project are complete. An urgent LPS for a key 1.4 km bottleneck stretch—between Tex Tools Bridge and Suriya Hospital—has already been submitted for validation.
This critical stretch requires 2.28 acres of private land and 0.58 acres of government land. Officials also noted that administrative sanction documents for the primary LPS have been submitted to CMRL for approval.
