Four Tracks, Zero Bottlenecks: India's 11,000-Km Rail Overhaul

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure blueprint to four-lane seven high-density railway corridors totaling nearly 11,000 km. Designed to overhaul India's rail capacity, the initiative targets routes that shoulder a disproportionate share of the national workload—accounting for 41% of total traffic despite comprising only 16% of the network.

By expanding vital links like the Delhi–Howrah, Howrah–Chennai, Mumbai–Howrah, and Delhi–Guwahati lines into four-track corridors, Indian Railways aims to dramatically reduce transit bottlenecks, boost freight efficiency, and strengthen connectivity between major metropolitan regions, production centers, and ports. This undertaking marks a cornerstone of India's long-term railway modernization goals.
