The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has begun preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed ₹20,649-crore metro extension linking Bengaluru to Tumakuru.
The new corridor will start at Madavara, the northern terminus of the existing Green Line, and extend over 59.6 km to Tumakuru, featuring 25 stations along the route. Aarvee Engineering Consultants has been appointed to prepare the DPR, with the contract valued at up to ₹1.2 crore.
This extension forms part of Namma Metro’s Phase 4 expansion and will involve comprehensive ground surveys, traffic studies, and preliminary assessments. The DPR will also include an Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) to examine all feasible transport options. While the metro aims to significantly enhance regional connectivity, some experts and residents have proposed that a suburban rail link could serve as a more cost-effective solution.
