Gurugram Metro Gears Up for Phase-I Expansion

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has approached the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) for approval to utilize over 5,800 square meters of land for the construction of 10 metro stations as part of Phase-I of its upcoming corridor.

The requested land is intended for essential station infrastructure, including entrances, staircases, and lift access points along the proposed route. Phase-I of the metro expansion, estimated at ₹1,286 crore, will cover a 15.2 km elevated stretch between Millennium City Centre and Sector-9, with a branch line extending to Sector 101 along the Dwarka Expressway. Once fully completed, the 28.5 km corridor will comprise 27 stations, linking Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, at a total projected cost of ₹5,452 crore.

GMRL has already submitted architectural plans for key stations, including:

Millennium City Centre – 574 sq. m., Sector 45 – 889 sq. m., Subhash Chowk – 518 sq. m., Sector 33 – 370 sq. m., Udyog Vihar Phase 6 – 628 sq. m., Sector 10 – 720 sq. m., Sector 37 – 323 sq. m., Basai Village – 930 sq. m. (entry) and 183.5 sq. m. (median), Sector 9 – 279 sq. m., Sector 101 – 371 sq. m.

Most of the metro infrastructure will be developed along existing rights-of-way (ROWs) already under GMRL’s control.

However, civil construction has been delayed due to the integration of the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass into the metro design. This underpass, with an allocated budget of ₹60 crore, has shifted the construction start date to June. To support construction efforts, HSVP has allotted 5.25 hectares in Sector 33 for a casting yard, which will be used for precasting metro components.

The tender process for Phase-I is scheduled to open on May 15. GMRL is also in the final stages of appointing a general consultant for the project.
