Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Kanpur Metro’s Chunniganj underground station on Sunday to review the progress of passenger service expansion from Moti Jheel to Kanpur Central under Corridor-1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta).
During his visit, he explored a photo gallery at the station’s concourse, which showcased key construction milestones. He also inspected a Kanpur Metro train stationed on the platform. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) Managing Director Sushil Kumar briefed the CM on the station’s features and the overall metro project’s progress.
Arriving at Chunniganj station around 11 AM, CM Yogi examined the ongoing construction work and viewed updates on both metro corridors—Corridor-1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta) and Corridor-2 (CSM University to Barra-8)—through a dedicated gallery.
The UPMRC MD guided him through exhibits highlighting major initiatives, including worker accommodations, training programs, health camps, water sprinkling near construction sites, and traffic management efforts. A special video presentation detailed the planning and implementation of multimodal connectivity between Kanpur Central Metro Station and the railway station.
The gallery also featured before-and-after images of five newly developed underground stations—Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central—set to open with the upcoming passenger service expansion. Additionally, displays showcased cutting-edge tunnel construction technology and green belt development along the metro corridor.
