The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed 118.9 km Kovvur–Bhadrachalam railway line has been completed, marking a significant milestone in improving rail connectivity across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
With a total project cost of Rs 1,695.71 crore, fully funded by Indian Railways, the new line is expected to reduce the Visakhapatnam–Hyderabad travel distance by nearly 100 km, greatly enhancing travel efficiency. Eluru MP Mahesh Yadav confirmed that construction work would begin soon, crediting persistent efforts in Parliament to expedite the project’s approval.
The line will connect Sathupalli to Kovvur, passing through Aswaraopeta, Jangareddygudem, and Devarapalli. It is expected to benefit several constituencies, including Chintalapudi, Polavaram, Gopalapuram, and Kovvuru, whose residents have long awaited improved rail access.
Beyond enhancing passenger mobility, the new railway line is poised to stimulate regional economic growth by strengthening freight connectivity and opening up trade corridors. The DPR’s completion is a key step toward addressing infrastructure gaps and unlocking development opportunities across multiple districts.
