Lucknow Metro Gets ₹5,801 Crore Boost for Phase 1B

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project, with an allocation of ₹5,801 crore for an 11.165 km corridor featuring 12 stations—seven underground and five elevated.

Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this expansion will extend the city’s Metro network to 34 km, significantly improving connectivity in the densely populated areas of Old Lucknow. Phase-1B will serve key commercial hubs like Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk; major institutions such as King George’s Medical University; and iconic tourist destinations including Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza. It will also link popular food and cultural hotspots, enriching the city’s urban and economic landscape.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, enhance mobility, boost tourism, and stimulate economic development. Officials noted that by connecting these high-footfall areas, Phase-1B will not only ease urban transit but also contribute to improved quality of life and environmental sustainability.
