Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Meerut South–Modipuram section of the Delhi–Meerut rapid rail corridor on February 22, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced after reviewing arrangements at the Hindon civil terminal.
The 23-km stretch will complete the Meerut leg of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. At present, services are operational on 55 km of the 82-km route between New Ashok Nagar in east Delhi and Meerut South. With the commissioning of the new segment, trains will run from New Ashok Nagar to Modipuram, as the Sarai Kale Khan terminal is yet to become operational.
Once the entire corridor is opened, commuters will be able to travel between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Modipuram in Meerut in about 55 minutes. The Meerut South–Modipuram section runs through densely populated localities such as Begumpul, MES, and Partapur. Trial runs on this portion began in February last year and concluded in June 2025.
The delay in operationalising the stretch had led to concerns among daily commuters, especially those in central Meerut who depended on expensive last-mile transport options. Residents say the new stations will significantly cut travel time and improve convenience for those travelling to Delhi.
The rapid rail project has been launched in phases. The Sahibabad–Duhai Depot section was inaugurated in October 2023, followed by Duhai–Modinagar North in March 2024, Modinagar North–Meerut South in August 2024, and Sahibabad–New Ashok Nagar in January this year.
During a divisional review meeting, the Chief Minister directed departments to ensure timely completion of all preparations. He said the new section would strengthen regional connectivity and contribute to the broader development of Meerut and nearby districts. He also called for stringent security measures, efficient traffic management, sanitation, and adequate public amenities, stressing close coordination among administrative, police, and civic authorities.
Earlier, the Chief Minister held a high-level meeting in Noida’s Sector 38 to review law and order and major development projects. Officials were instructed to maintain vigilance, expedite works, resolve bottlenecks, ensure transparency, and address public grievances promptly to reinforce investor confidence and support the city’s rapid urban expansion.
