Mizoram on Track: Sairang to Become World-Class Rail Hub

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has announced plans to upgrade Sairang Railway Station in Aizawl district into a world-class facility, following a positive response from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to the state’s proposal.

The Chief Minister also confirmed the approval of Rajdhani Express services from Sairang to Delhi, Kolkata, and Agartala, significantly boosting the state's rail connectivity. However, he emphasized the need to reinforce the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, noting that enhanced connectivity is likely to increase the influx of non-tribal populations into the state.

Highlighting broader regional developments, the CM spoke about the nearing completion of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP). This key infrastructure project will link Mizoram to the Sittwe Port in Myanmar, positioning southern Mizoram as a strategic trade gateway for South Asia and the northeastern region of India.

To manage the anticipated economic and social impacts of the project, the state has formed a study team led by the Chief Secretary, tasked with preparing for the transformational changes expected in the region.
