Namma Metro: Reaching New Heights in Bengaluru by 2025

On February 8, 2024, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar provided an update on the progress of Reach 6 in Phase-II of Namma Metro in Bengaluru, expressing optimism that it would be completed by 2025.

The Deputy Chief Minister marked the occasion by observing the commencement of tunneling operations at the KG Halli Metro station using a large drilling machine. The tunnel for this phase spans a total length of 13.76 km, encompassing 12 stations between Dairy Circle and Nagavara, contributing to the overall 21.26 km route from Kalena Agrahara to Nagavara. The construction responsibility for this segment has been entrusted to Afcons, L&T, and ITD. As of now, nine tunnel drilling machines are operational, with seven nearing completion.

Significant progress, accounting for approximately 75 percent, has been made on the construction of the 12 stations along the route. Key stations include Jayadeva Hospital, MG Road, Cantonment, and Nagavara, serving as major interchange hubs. Additionally, plans are underway to develop tunnel roads within Bengaluru. Progress on the airport metro line is also ongoing, with directives from the state government to incorporate dual levels in areas where pillars have yet to be erected, facilitating both road and Metro infrastructure.

Collaboratively, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) will oversee these endeavors, with BBMP covering the costs of flyover construction and BMRCL managing expenses related to the Metro project. These initiatives aim to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion in Bengaluru. Land acquisition stands at 98 percent completion, with construction progress reaching 53 percent. Simultaneously, work on the 17 elevated Metro stations continues.

Furthermore, the government has initiated steps to develop detailed project reports (DPRs) for routes connecting Tumakuru, Anekal, and Bidadi, indicating a commitment to further expanding the metro network.
