The Patna Metro Rail Project achieved a major milestone on 7 September 2025, with the successful completion of the first fitness trial runs on Line 2.
Spanning 14.05 km between Patna Junction Railway Station and New ISBT, Line 2 includes 12 stations. The initial trial was conducted on the stretch between Patna Depot and Bhoothnath Metro Station, focusing on the testing of key systems such as train movement, braking, signaling, and communication to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) Minister Jibesh Kumar inspected the Metro Depot and Zero Mile Metro Station, expressing satisfaction with the progress. “The project will significantly transform public transport in Patna,” he stated.
The Patna Metro is being developed as a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and is currently under construction. Phase 1 comprises two corridors:
Line 1: Danapur Cantonment to Khemni Chak – 16.86 km, 14 stations
Line 2: Patna Junction to New ISBT – 14.05 km, 12 stations
This milestone marks a key step toward modernising urban mobility in Patna, promising faster, safer, and more efficient public transportation for the city.
