Pune Metro BOOM: Phase 2 Approved, $9,857 Cr. Project Underway.

The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of Line 4 (Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug) under Pune Metro Phase 2, marking a major advancement in the city’s urban mobility plans.

The 31.636 km expansion, featuring 28 elevated stations, will strengthen connectivity across Pune’s key IT hubs, commercial districts, and residential neighbourhoods. The project, valued at ₹9,857.85 crore, will be jointly funded by the Central Government, the Government of Maharashtra, and external financing agencies.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that the new corridors will enhance commuting efficiency, ease traffic congestion, and support sustainable transportation.

Ridership on these routes is projected to surpass 11.7 lakh daily passengers by 2058, with Pune’s metro network poised to exceed 100 km in total length. “These new corridors will save precious commuting time, reduce traffic snarls, and provide citizens with a reliable, affordable, and green travel option,” the Minister added.
