Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a significant electrification upgrade project awarded by Southern Railway. The project entails upgrading the electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV across the Salem Junction–Podanur Junction and Irugur–Coimbatore Junction–Podanur Junction sections, falling under the Salem division.
This upgrade is designed to enhance the system’s capacity to support a 3000 MT freight loading target. The total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹143.38 crore.
