Speed Boost Trial Underway for Coimbatore Rail Route.

Southern Railway will conduct a trial run of a high-speed train between Coimbatore and Jolarpettai to assess enhanced track capabilities.

The trial will test speeds of up to 110 km/h along the 286-km route, with plans to raise the permissible speed to 130 km/h by March 2026 after ongoing upgrade works are completed. The corridor has undergone significant improvements, including strengthened bridges, realigned curves, upgraded signalling systems, enhanced overhead equipment, and barricading to prevent trespassing.

Once the upgrades are fully implemented, passengers—especially those travelling on the Coimbatore–Chennai Vande Bharat Express—are expected to save 20–25 minutes in travel time. Southern Railway has advised the public to stay away from the tracks during the trial for safety.
