The 14th Wonder: Kim River Bridge Adds to Bullet Train Progress

A significant milestone has been achieved in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor with the completion of a 120-meter river bridge over the Kim River in Surat district, Gujarat.

The bridge, finished on March 15, 2025, is the 14th of 21 planned river bridges in Gujarat for the high-speed rail project. Located between the Surat and Bharuch bullet train stations, approximately 30 km apart, the bridge features three full-span girders, each 40 meters long, supported by four circular piers, each with a diameter of four meters. The height of the piers ranges from 12 to 15 meters.

The Gujarat section of the project has already seen the completion of river bridges over the Par, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, Auranga, Venganiya, Mohar, Dhadhar, Kolak, Vatrak, Kaveri, Kharera, and Meshwa rivers, spanning multiple districts like Valsad, Navsari, Kheda, and Vadodara. However, work continues on other major river bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers along the Surat–Bharuch route.

These bridges are a vital part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, which is being carried out by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), and their completion is crucial to keeping the project on track.
