Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commenced the supply of semi-high-speed underslung traction converters for the Vande Bharat sleeper train project. The converters are being dispatched to Kolkata, where the final assembly of the trains will take place.
A flag-off ceremony was held at BHEL’s Bengaluru manufacturing facility to mark the delivery of the first set of converters. The event was attended by Bani Varma, Director (IS&P) at BHEL, along with other senior officials. The supply forms part of BHEL’s broader commitment to delivering indigenous power and propulsion solutions to support the expansion of India’s railway infrastructure.
The Vande Bharat sleeper trains are a key component of India’s push to strengthen its semi-high-speed rail services, offering enhanced comfort and efficiency for long-distance travel.
