The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has identified 18 new slum clusters in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) for redevelopment under Maharashtra’s Slum Cluster Area Redevelopment Scheme. The decision follows positive investor response to the pilot project in Andheri (West) and aims to accelerate large-scale urban renewal across the region.
Under the scheme, eligible clusters must span at least 50 acres and have over 51% slum occupancy. SRA will serve as the nodal agency for project implementation, while the proposed redevelopment plans will require approval from a high-power committee and the state government. The initiative is expected to improve housing conditions, promote planned urban development, and create new redevelopment opportunities across the MMR.
