The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 6,957 crore infrastructure project for the widening and improvement of the Kalibor–Numaligarh section of National Highway (NH) 715 in Assam.
Spanning 85.675 km, the project will be implemented under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode and is aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, economic development, and tourism in the state.
Key highlights include:
Construction of a 34.45 km elevated corridor to ensure safe wildlife movement between Kaziranga National Park and the Karbi-Anglong Hills
Upgradation of 30.22 km of existing two-lane highway, Development of greenfield bypasses:, 11.5 km at Jakhalabandha
9.5 km at Bokakhat
The improved NH-715 will significantly strengthen connectivity between Guwahati, Kaziranga, and Numaligarh, while also linking to NH-127, NH-129, and SH-35. Additionally, the project will enhance access to:
Three airports, Three railway stations, Fishing clusters, Tribal districts, Key religious and tourist destinations
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to balancing infrastructure development with environmental conservation, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas like Kaziranga.
