Atal-Express Link: The Mumbai–Pune Fast-Track

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is accelerating work on the Atal Setu–Mumbai–Pune Expressway connector, a 7.35 km six-lane elevated corridor designed to enable faster, signal-free travel between Mumbai and Pune. The project is a key infrastructure link aimed at improving regional connectivity and easing congestion on existing routes.

Construction has progressed significantly along the alignment. Foundation work has been completed at 143 out of 176 locations, while pier construction has reached 141 sites. Of these, 88 piers have already been fitted with pier caps, forming the structural backbone of the elevated corridor. In addition, 653 out of 830 precast girders have been installed, indicating strong advancement in superstructure development.

Parallel efforts are underway to improve ground-level connectivity. At Palaspe in Panvel, slip roads and service roads are being widened to enhance local access and reduce congestion.

The corridor will link Atal Setu with the Mumbai–Pune Expressway via Chirle and Palaspe, while also connecting to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust highway and improving access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Scheduled for completion by February 2027, the project is expected to significantly cut travel time and enhance commuter convenience.
