The Belagavi Zilla Panchayat is set to undertake the construction and upgradation of 481.14 km of rural roads across the district under the Karnataka government’s Pragatipath scheme.
The project spans all 18 Assembly constituencies in the district and is estimated to cost around ₹350 crore. Satish Jarkiholi, Karnataka’s Public Works Minister, said the state has launched the initiative with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank to upgrade a total of 7,110 km of rural roads across Karnataka at an overall cost of ₹5,190 crore.
He noted that a similar large-scale rural road development programme was last implemented six years ago and that work under the current phase will begin shortly.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shindhe said the scheme is aimed at improving road quality and building a more systematic rural road network across the district. The funding structure includes 70% external loan assistance and 30% state contribution.
The Karnataka Rural Road Development Corporation will oversee implementation and maintenance of the roads over a five-year period.
