Chennai's Roads Get a ₹92.74 Crore Makeover!

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has unveiled a major initiative to upgrade 346 roads across 14 zones in the city, with a total budget allocation of Rs 92.74 crore under the Special Fund for the fiscal year 2025–26.

The project will cover both interior and bus route roads, with resurfacing and reconstruction work using cement concrete, bituminous tar, and interlocking pavers. To ensure timely and efficient execution, the GCC’s Bus Route Roads Department has divided the work into 21 packages, preventing delays that might arise from assigning large areas to single contractors.

Tenders have already been issued, and work orders are expected by the end of May. For example, Package-1 includes 24 roads in the Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, and Royapuram areas. Package-2 and Package-3 will cover several roads in Anna Nagar and Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, with estimated costs of approximately Rs 4.35 crore and Rs 4.53 crore, respectively.

This project is part of the GCC's broader efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and enhance the commuting experience for Chennai residents.
