The Delhi government has launched a ₹600 crore road development initiative focused on improving connectivity and transforming the Najafgarh Drain (also known as the Sahibi River) into a green corridor. The project includes the construction of 60.77 km of new roads, featuring a 5.94 km two-lane road on the left bank from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge, and two-lane roads on both banks from Chhawla Bridge to Basaidarapur Bridge, spanning a total of 54.83 km.
This corridor is designed to link with major arterial roads such as the Inner Ring Road (Basai Darapur), Outer Ring Road (Keshavpur), Pankha Road (Vikaspuri), Najafgarh Road (Kakrola), and the Dwarka Expressway. The integration is expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly boost regional connectivity.
According to Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma, the project aims to not only upgrade the transportation network but also promote environmental sustainability. Plans include landscaping, public toilets, street furniture, boundary walls, and clear signage to enhance the area’s urban ecosystem.
The development will especially benefit residents of surrounding areas such as Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nilothi, Baprola, Kakrola, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Vikaspuri, and Chhawla. Construction is set to commence soon.
