Launched in January 2023 to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Washermenpet, Vyasarpadi, and Tondiarpet, the Ganesapuram flyover project has seen sluggish progress. Despite a targeted completion timeline of two years, only 30% of the construction has been completed as of June 2025.
Residents blame the delay on ineffective planning and lack of coordination among various government departments. The partially built flyover has led to damaged service roads, traffic bottlenecks, and heightened safety risks, with no revised completion timeline in sight. Repeated appeals to civic authorities and elected officials have yielded little response.
The flyover is a vital connector for over 40 neighbourhoods, including Kodungaiyur, M R Nagar, Muthamizh Nagar, Kannadasan Nagar, Krishnamurthy Nagar, and MKB Nagar, which rely heavily on this corridor for daily commutes. With the monsoon approaching, residents and local businesses are calling for urgent intervention to fast-track construction and mitigate further disruption.
