Ganga’s New Expressway: The Rise of the Vishwamitra Path

Bihar is planning a major infrastructure expansion along the Ganga River corridor through the proposed four-lane Vishwamitra Path highway, aimed at improving connectivity between Patna and western Bihar.

According to reports, the proposed highway will extend approximately 125 km between Maner and Buxar, with nearly 90 km planned alongside Ganga embankments. The corridor is expected to provide an alternative route between Patna and Buxar, reducing travel time and improving regional transportation efficiency.

As part of the broader connectivity plan, authorities also intend to construct a new bridge over the Sone River to facilitate smoother movement across the region.

Officials stated that Vishwamitra Path will be developed as a fully at-grade highway instead of an elevated corridor, which is expected to lower construction complexity and reduce project costs. Existing embankments along the Ganga will be utilised wherever feasible, while new stretches will be developed to complete the alignment and establish a continuous transport corridor.
