Gujarat's Mega Expressway Blitz: ₹96,240 Crore Road to Progress

The Gujarat government has announced two major expressway projects with a combined investment of ₹96,240 crore.

Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma detailed the projects in the Assembly, highlighting the Namo Shakti Expressway (430 km, ₹39,120 crore) connecting Deesa to Pipavav and the Somnath-Dwarka Expressway (680 km, ₹57,120 crore). For the upcoming financial year, ₹520 crore has been allocated from the ₹50,000 crore Developed Gujarat Fund.

The alignment for both expressways will be finalized within six months, followed by a year-long detailed project report (DPR). Land acquisition requirements will be determined after the DPR’s completion.

Gujarat has a road network spanning 1.11 lakh km, covering national and state highways, district roads, and rural roads. In the 2024-25 Budget, the state allocated ₹10,045 crore for road infrastructure. Additionally, the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, is expected to strengthen trade connectivity.

The state is also integrating smart road technologies, focusing on industrial hubs, ports, and agricultural regions to enhance transportation efficiency.
