Kushinagar Gets ₹111 Cr Boost: 5 Underpasses to Transform Traffic

Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, laid the foundation stone for five new vehicular underpasses—Baghnath, Ken Union Chowk, Fazilnagar, Salemgarh, and Patheria—in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. The initiative, valued at ₹111 crore, covers a total length of 5.4 km and is aimed for completion by the end of 2026.

The underpasses are designed to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and reduce both travel time and fuel consumption in the region.

During his visit, the Minister also reviewed progress on the 75-km Gorakhpur Ring Road project, which is being constructed at a cost of ₹1,780 crore. He called for acceleration of the remaining 26 km to ensure timely completion. In addition, he assessed various ongoing infrastructure projects undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Emphasizing the role of infrastructure in driving economic growth, the Minister highlighted the importance of improved connectivity between key religious and cultural destinations such as Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and Varanasi. Projects like city ring roads, he noted, are vital for reducing urban traffic and enhancing regional mobility.
