New ₹640 Crore Elevated Corridor to Transform Cuttack's Traffic

Cuttack is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade with the development of a ₹640 crore elevated corridor connecting OMP Square to Kandarpur.

Designed to ease traffic congestion along National Highway 55, the 13 km corridor will include service roads, double-lane paved shoulders, flyovers, and grade separators. Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab announced on July 27, 2025, that the detailed project report (DPR) has been completed and is currently awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Construction is expected to begin within three months of receiving approval.

The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve road safety for both commuters and heavy vehicle operators. Initially announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to Odisha in April 2025, the corridor will be funded under the National Highway Development Budget for 2024–25 and executed in phases.

The MP has urged the ministry to expedite the approval process, citing escalating traffic concerns and growing public demand. Coordination between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state agencies is already in progress, with groundwork likely to start by the end of 2025.
