NHAI Revives Pathankot–Mandi Four-Lane Project

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has appointed a new consultant to prepare a revised detailed project report (DPR) for the 60-km Paror–Padhar stretch of the Pathankot–Mandi four-lane project, which has been delayed for the past four years.

The move is aimed at resolving long-pending issues and reviving this key highway corridor that connects Pathankot with Leh. Once the updated DPR is approved, NHAI will move ahead with land acquisition and invite global bids for the project.

The proposed four-lane highway is expected to shorten the distance between Pathankot and Mandi by nearly 48 km, significantly reducing travel time. The project holds strategic importance as it will improve civilian connectivity while also enabling faster military access to Leh and Ladakh.

The development is likely to boost tourism, trade, and transportation across the region, benefiting districts such as Kangra, Palampur, and Mandi. It is also expected to ease congestion, reduce travel delays, and lower fuel consumption, addressing long-standing concerns of local residents and businesses.
