Smooth Sailing: Delhi to Get ₹627 Crore Road Makeover

Commuters in Delhi can look forward to improved road conditions as the Public Works Department (PWD) prepares to roll out a major road strengthening programme worth ₹626.8 crore across the city.

Scheduled to commence in the new financial year, the initiative aims to rehabilitate and upgrade key road corridors, focusing on damaged stretches and pothole-prone areas. Authorities have already invited bids, marking the start of a large-scale effort to enhance driving conditions, reduce maintenance frequency, and improve the durability of urban roads.

The total allocation has been distributed across three regions, with East Delhi projects valued at ₹143.1 crore, South Delhi receiving the highest share at ₹256.5 crore, and North Delhi allocated ₹227.2 crore.

Key roads identified for strengthening include West End Marg, SSN Marg, Gadaipur Bandh Road, and Mandi Road in South Delhi. Additional stretches such as Apeejay School Road, Mandir Marg in Panchsheel Enclave, the main road in Sector-1, Pushp Vihar, and the service road along C.V. Raman Road are also part of the plan.

The programme is expected to significantly improve commuter safety and strengthen Delhi’s urban road infrastructure.
