Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have greenlit the state's next wave of highway expansion. Following a highly successful run through May 2026—which saw 1,010 km of highways completed and ₹23,445 crore in investments secured—the state is shifting its focus to the FY2027 project pipeline.
To kick off this next phase, officials have been directed to fast-track land acquisition, forest clearances, and utility shifting for 10 pending projects spanning 267 km. The broader blueprint features massive connectivity upgrades, including the proposed 742-km Shamli-Gorakhpur access-controlled corridor, four-lane links to 33 district headquarters, and dedicated corridors designed to boost industrial logistics, airports, and religious tourism.
