Airtel's Nxtra Amplifies Green Energy with Major New Ampin Deal

Nxtra by Airtel has signed a new power-wheeling agreement with Ampin Energy Transition to procure an additional 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid renewable energy. This brings the total renewable energy commitment between the two companies to over 200 MW, underscoring Nxtra’s growing focus on sustainable power for its data center operations.

The renewable energy will be supplied through Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected captive plants, marking a significant expansion of Airtel’s clean energy footprint. The new capacity will be deployed in two phases from projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

Previously, Nxtra had partnered with Ampin for approximately 75 MW of renewable energy via intra-state open access arrangements in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

“This achievement highlights our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy to power our facilities sustainably, boosting reliability and ensuring tangible climate impact,” said Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel. Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD & CEO of Ampin Energy Transition, added, “We are proud to make data centres green through this association.”

Nxtra joined the global RE100 initiative in June 2024, committing to sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. This aligns with its mission to lead India’s green data infrastructure transformation.
