CLINT Shines Bright with Tamil Nadu's First Captive Solar Plant

CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT) has inaugurated its inaugural captive solar power facility in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable energy practices. The state-of-the-art 21-MW solar plant is poised to generate more than 30 million kWh of electricity annually, catering to the power needs of a vast expanse equivalent to two million sq. ft. of office space.

Primarily allocated for powering the common areas of CLINT's assets in Tamil Nadu, this solar initiative is projected to elevate the trust's utilization of green energy by over 70 percent. In addition to fostering environmental sustainability, the solar plant is expected to curtail carbon emissions by over 17,000 tonnes, concurrently diminishing the dependency on external power procurement. Notably, the facility boasts an expansion potential of eight MW, envisioning a prospective total size of 29 MW for the solar plant.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with CLINT's strategic vision for renewable energy solutions in India and reinforces its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, as per SCOPE-I and II. Bolstering its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, CLINT has been actively pursuing its 2030 Sustainability Master Plan targets. As of December 2023, an impressive 99 percent of CLINT's business park assets have earned green ratings from esteemed organizations such as the Indian Green Building Council and the US Green Building Council. Noteworthy accolades include a 4-star rating for sustainability achievements, achieved within the first year of participation in the 2023 GRESB Real Estate Assessment.

CLINT's dedication to a low-carbon business model is further evident through the installation of rooftop solar panels across its buildings and the procurement of green energy via long-term power purchase agreements. This multifaceted approach underscores CLINT's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and robust governance practices.
