Gautam Solar (GSPL) is set to establish a 5 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, with an investment of ₹4,000 crore.
Spanning 54 acres, the facility will specialize in the production of advanced Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cells, known for their high efficiency. The project will be developed in phases, with the first phase aiming to achieve a 2 GW production capacity by 2026. Following this, GSPL plans to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) to fund the second phase, which will add an additional 3 GW of capacity.
Describing the project as a milestone for India’s renewable energy sector, Director Gautam Mohanka said it will be among the country’s largest solar cell manufacturing plants featuring next-generation technology. GSPL also announced long-term plans to enter wafer manufacturing, moving toward a fully integrated solar value chain.
The Gwalior plant is expected to significantly reduce India’s dependence on solar imports, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and contribute to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative—supporting the nation’s clean energy transition.
